June Newsletter

Dear Readers,

We hope this newsletter finds you well. Last time we shared the launch of our Rehearsal Spaces Fellowship programme, and now we’re excited to announce our campaign partners for this summer and officially open the call for artists to apply.

The Rehearsal Spaces Fellowship is an experimental project running across summer/autumn 2026. Our goal is to develop infrastructure for socially-engaged artistic practices, by embedding grassroots artists within the context of place-based, spatial justice campaigns in London. By funding two artist fellowship placements in two different boroughs, each spanning six-weeks, the fellowship creatively and strategically supports the (re)imagination of the spatial justice movement in our city. You can read more about the development of this programme in our previous newsletter here.

Open Call for Artists

Our partners for this Summer’s Rehearsal Spaces Fellowship are A House for Artists; and Tottenham Family Fight Back. You can follow them on instagram and see the amazing work they do.

Applications for artists to take part in two paid, six-week fellowship placements for both groups are now open.

If you or someone you know is interested in developing a socially engaged practice, you can read more details HERE and apply via the application form below.

Introducing our Campaign Partners

A House for Artists (AHFA)

AHFA is an experiment in communal living featuring 12 homes, occupied by artists and their families/flatmates, with a ground floor community/work space.

The residents are currently exploring and rehearsing new governance structures to become an artist-led space in Barking and Dagenham that engages the local community.

AHFA’s main aims are to establish the building as a residency space, studio and hub for artists and visitors across London and beyond; and to formalise the model’s learnings to support similar spaces.

The residents are looking for an artist to work with them to develop creative ways of revealing their ongoing work to wider publics.

Follow them on Instagram.

Tottenham Family Fight Back (TFFB)

TFFB started last summer when a group of parents and childcare workers occupied a community centre and nursery threatened with demolition. To meet the needs of their community, they ran a programme of free meals and activities, from kids DJing and boxing workshops, to language classes and legal advice.

Their occupation was never just about surviving the summer. It was about rehearsing a different future, one where our community has real power over the spaces that belong to them. After a successful campaign the council have agreed to their demands and they are excited to make their dream happen.

TFFB are looking for an artist to work with them for a participant-led narrative/storytelling project to support their community plan for the “Living Under One Sun” building.

Socially Engaged Art

& what this looks like in practice

As part of this journey building infrastructure for socially engaged artistic practices toward spatial justice, we thought it would be helpful to explore what ‘socially engaged art ‘ means to us.
